Is It Important To Eat Organic Food?

By Anthony Kalliopi

There are many misconceptions of what organic food is and what it can do for your body. No, it doesn't contain more nutrients nor does it somehow prevent disease or obesity - at least not on its own.

You see, when you eat organic foods, what you're really doing is simply stopping the intake of huge amounts of toxins that comes from regularly grown foods. These toxins are partly responsible for many modern problems, such as cancer, arthritis, and food allergies.

These chemicals are unsafe for human consumption on their own but when they build up over time because you're ingesting them faster than you can get rid of them, they can do damage - especially to your liver.

This is also thought to be part of the cause of obesity. The liver plays a large roll in the bodies ability to burn fat. If the liver spends all its time and energy simply removing toxins, it becomes full of toxins itself (think of it like a filter) and can no longer work well. It becomes less and less efficient at burning fat.

Now, these chemicals are bad enough alone, but when the pesticides, preservatives, and high-heat of pasteurization all come together to create a processed food product, they make new and completely untested chemicals that wreak havoc on your body.

The real health benefits of eating organic foods doesn't come from the food itself though. The real benefit comes from no longer loading yourself with chemicals, giving your liver and the rest of your detox systems a break. When you give them a break, amazing things can start to happen. Your body will actually start to heal itself and some of these horrible diseases such as asthma, cancer, and arthritis can go away.

So in the end, the choice is up to you. But yes, I'd say organic food matters. It makes a difference in your health, and it makes a difference in your life. It's true that switching to organic foods won't instantly make you look like Ryan Gosling or Emma Stone, but it lets your body not worry so much about keeping up with the huge burden of constantly removing toxins, and instead focus on giving you better overall health.
