The future may bring any number of emergencies into your life and it is always best to be highly proactive and very prepared to face whatever comes your way. During an emergency, a 3 day survival kit will get you off on the right foot to maintain your entire family. It is this time period that is the most important and critical as help may take that long or longer to arrive.

An emergency could consist of an enemy attack, a nuclear or other bomb, or severe weather fluctuations such as a tornado, hurricane or tsunami. Whatever the case, the essential supplies and all of your necessary equipment on hand when these life-threatening event occur can be what saves the lives of yourself and your family.

This supply must include several critical items to get you through this first time period. It sometimes takes days for emergency resources to converge and get critical supplies to the areas affected. By having your own store of items, you will be well-prepared to take on much more than others.The basic items one needs include food, water, first-aid supplies, communication devices, shelter, warmth and food prep equipment.

You can actually purchases boxes and bags of prepared food items in case of these situations. For such a short time period, you can also assemble your own necessities. Some of the items you may wish to consider are powdered drinks and milk, dried foods such as meats, beans, and fruit, canned goods such as soups and stews, and power bars for the energy you will need. Water should always be ready to grab. Containers can be filled and stored days in advance. Gallon jugs or larger receptacles can also be purchased and available.

First aid should include band aids, antibiotics, scissors, a thermometer, aspirin, tape, and gauze. This kit should also include any current medications taken by family members and a first aid book. Communication devices could consist of two-way radios, a battery powered radio, and cell phones with portable chargers. Don't forget to include extra batteries for any devices that require them.

Other necessities can include flashlights, lighters, matches, tools, a manual can opener, sanitation items, and cooking equipment. Other items will depend greatly on your family makeup. If you have small children, baby supplies may be needed. Pet owners will have to keep their animals' needs in mind also. Keep copies of personal documents such as birth certificates and social security cards ready to go as well as a substantial amount of cash.

The type of shelter you require will depend on where you live and the type of emergency you are facing. You may or may not be able to stay in your home. If you are forced to leave, a tent is critical. Blankets or sleeping bags are also needed. Some emergency kits come with Mylar blankets for optimal heat.

Being proactive when it comes to natural or man-made emergencies is what will make a difference in your survival. Begin your preparations by assembling these items and others that are pertinent to your family's sustainability.
