Workout Options That Are Lower Impact

By Kamryn Mattson

Obviously, high impact exercises yield some great results. They burn a large amount of calories and can whip you into shape fairly quickly. However, not everyone has a body that can really withstand the punishment of running or jogging or other exercises that are heavy in impact. However, you can stay in shape with some exercises that are lower in impact.

While there are certainly some people who love to jog or run, it's just not a viable option for many of us. So instead of running, consider walking instead. This can be a great activity as well as a social one if you can get a few friends to go walking with you. You can make it more interesting by choosing different walking locations during the week. Hiking is another fun option, and you can start out with short hikes and then work up to more advanced excursions. If you prefer to work out indoors, you can walk on a treadmill or increase your calorie burning with a stair stepping machine or an elliptical trainer. Both of these activities burn a large amount of calories without the impact of running.

There are plenty of outdoor activities that are tons of fun and also are not high impact activities. If you have access to a lake or a harbor of some sort, consider fun activities such as stand-up paddle boarding and kayaking. These burn calories but won't hurt your knees, legs or feet in the process.

When it comes to low impact cardio workouts, swimming is an excellent choice. You can work every part of the body without jostling your joints and muscles. See if your local area offers low-cost water aerobics classes as this can be quite fun and a good way to burn calories and get your heart pumping. Just swimming laps is certainly another option and you can compete against yourself to improve lap time and lap amounts. If possible, try to mix up a variety of activities to keep your interest high. You might walk with friends two days per week, swim two other days per week and enjoy a family hike on the weekend.

While you might be trying to avoid muscle pain by opting for low impact, sometimes aches and strains do occur and can cause a fair amount of discomfort. When this happens, consider drug-free and safe pain relief products such as a physiological hybrid shape. This product, which is designed using the principles of kinesiology, has a special design that protects the sore area while reaching out and gaining strength from nearby muscles that are not sore or strained.

Rapid Force is one of the companies that produce these hybrid shapes, and they offer several different varieties to protect, reduce pain and speed up healing in several key areas. You can find physiological hybrid shapes for lower back support and upper back support, as well as elbow pain relief, knee pain relief and even pain relief in the shoulders.
