Using A Countertop Water Filter Or Other Systems To Ensure Water Quality

By Lucy Cho

A countertop water filter may offer comfort to those who reside in regions that have poor water quality or that are sensitive to water contaminants. Some people worry, though, that their water filter might not do what it is supposed to do. In the past, some water filters actually reduced water quality or did not improve it at all. Today, most systems such as countertop water filtration systems or Pristine water purification have been able to demonstrate marked improvement in water quality after filtration. Whether your system can work best may depend on the situation, the system type, and following instructions.

We will look at some of the reasons water filters could be a good idea, even if you usually have fine quality tap water. Then, we will talk about how countertop filtration systems work. Finally, we will look into current analysis of countertop water filter systems.

In the U.S., the water quality in most places is typically reliable. Usually, the occurrence of waterborne illnesses in drinking water is very low. But, as recently as the 1990s American cities had outbreaks of these waterborne illnesses. Protozoa, bacteria, and viruses can be in the water and cause illnesses. These illnesses can come with symptoms like fevers and diarrhea. Cities such as Las Vegas, Milwaukee, and Washington had serious issues with waterborne illnesses. Even areas that have never had problems can potentially have them. Natural disasters like hurricanes, flooding or other problems can do serious damage to water supplies and can detrimentally impact otherwise quality water. Use of water filtration systems such as Pristine water purification can help halt such waterborne illnesses from being a problem.

Various filtration systems exist that a countertop water filter may employ. Carbon filters are used usually for lesser quantities of water. They can remove bad odors or tastes, as well as contaminants like pesticides, heavy metals, and parasites. Reverse osmosis systems remove impurities such as parasites and heavy metals to get quality water. UV filtration systems are great for extracting parasites and bacteria by exposing the drinking water to UV radiation. For other contaminant types, though, ultraviolet filtration systems might need extra assistance.

Most tap water in the United States is fine, but for those who have weak immune systems, seniors, pregnant women, or children there may be an added desire to ensure water quality. Now there are industry standards you can check. A quality system should be labeled with NSF/ANSI standard 53 at least, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council. Study up before choosing your water filter, as you may end up with a low quality filter that might do more harm than good.

Clean water is a recognized human right, and having a quality countertop water filter system or using Pristine water purification products could be the way people can get this right.
