The King of the Masticating Juicers

By Tim S Bramwell

For a long time now the wheatgrass juicer has been the slow old guy of the juicer world. Anyone who was in their right minds would always buy a centrifugal juicer. Why would you want to waste that time, slowly pushing fruit and veg and wheat grass through a masticating juicer?

The important differences are that a masticating juicer is slower, not because it is healthier, or it is causing less oxidation but because it is doing everything in a far more natural way. Centrifugal juicers will in fact spin at high speeds, and cut or grate through the fruit and vegetables.

Presently there are two ways of thinking on whether this really is healthier or not, or whether this leads to more oxidation or not. However the reality is none of us have a spinning grater in our mouths. We all have to munch and chew and chew. This is exactly what a masticating juicer does.

That is not saying that we cannot enhance the idea! We may not have access to blades inside our mouths, but a majority of animals sure do, they have bigger mouths than we all do. If we took the current masticating juicer design, flipped it into a vertical configuration so that it looks and works almost like a centrifugal juicer. Then we make the auger and the sieve a lot bigger; then we'll have a larger through put of vegetables and fruit and consequently an increased yield of juice in a far shorter period of time.

There is a new Juicer available on the market; it goes by many names, the Hurom HU-100 ULTEM or the KT100 or the HU-200, HU-300, HU-400. As well as a few of the other Vertical models. Now there are marginal variations in many of these, mostly these model numbers reference colour or generation of design. Some of the other vertical models are simply rebranded Hurom Juicers.

If you Google any of these model numbers you'll see the new king of the juicers and if you're a juicing enthusiast or a fitness fanatic you certainly would like to get your hands on one of these!

This Juicer has a wider neck for larger pieces of vegetables and fruit, though you still definitely want to cut up incredibly large items. Additionally, it has a large single auger along with a very large sieve, created from GE ULTEM plastic which is virtually indestructible.

It also has a little new feature we've not seen in the juicing arena before, and that's to be able to self-clean or keep itself somewhat clean. It has a little rotating brush which constantly keeps the sieve clean. When you're wanting to change recipes or you wish to finally clean the juicer you just run water through it and you're able to give it a final clean under the tap.

This juicer won't end up being the last in your life because it is going to give you a longer life, but it will unquestionably draw the line with regards to juicers for the forseeable future.
