Crossfit Workouts Are A Terrific Way To Do Interval Training

By Jim Evans

In the busy world of today, lots of free time is often a luxury that many are not able to enjoy. For that reason, the goal for training fanatics is to have a truly effective workout in the least length of time possible. By utilizing interval training workouts such as Crossfit workouts and Tabata, as well as an tabata timer, this challenge can be overcome with a great deal of success.

What are the advantages of interval training?

Interval training incorporates short bursts of intense exercise, followed by temporary rest periods. The primary idea is to power the body into oxygen debt and lactic acid buildup, then acclimate the muscles to quick recovery periods before going back to intensity. This technique of training isn't just more time efficient, but by educating the body to burn lactic acid successfully in practice, the thought is that those who workout are capable of performing at levels of high intensity for longer before tiredness or pain slow them down.

So why do I need an exercise timer?

Some Crossfit workouts, for example, only need a stopwatch as you are conducting a series of exercises and reps in a set time period or as fast as possible. However, others such as "Chelsea" or "Ash" require specific time intervals to be followed. An exercise timer is a a compact, practical and cost-effective device to track your times, both in stopwatch or interval mode. Undertaking a high-intensity exercise session is hard enough - why be worried about the clock as well?

What is Tabata?

Tabata training was established by Japanese researcher, Izumi Tabata. Through a combination of tests, Tabata discovered that high-intensity interval training improves both cardiovascular and anaerobic systems in athletes. Simply, a sports athlete takes a single exercise - typically a compound action that utilizes many muscles simultaneously - and performs:

- For 20 seconds, do as many reps as you possibly can or run, bike as hard as you can

- Rest for ten seconds

- Repeat seven more times

Summary

If you are an athlete or health enthusiast trying to train at a higher level, but do not have enough time to hit the gym for an additional hour, look at high-intensity intervals. Crossfit workouts are well-known for a reason and using an exercise or Tabata timer to track your time intervals will only help to ensure success.
